It's Not Just Gay Marriage

If you have been living under a rock recently (I would not blame you if you have, there are some pretty nice rocks out there) you may not have heard that the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) legalised same-sex marriage in all 50 states. That is a really awesome step towards equality and it sends a message to the new generations that same-sex relationships are normal and deserve the same treatment as heterosexual ones. However, there has been one large oversight by many who report on this milestone in LGBT+ history.

A lot of the headlines have contained some variation of the following: "Gay Marriage Legalised". While it may be true that gay couples can now marry it does not mean that only gay people can get married. The legalisation of same-sex marriage opens up the door for people of all sexual orientations to get married. While it may be 'gay marriage' it is also "bisexual marriage", "pansexual mariage", "queer marriage", "skoliosexual marriage" (people attracted to those who are not cisgendered [someone who is cisgendered identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth]) or, as I like to put it "Marriage". Really, it is just widening the definition of the term "marriage". It is not like people have gay breakfasts (though they are really fun) or bisexual luncheons (again, an interesting concept), people just have breakfast or attend luncheons. By referring to something simply as "gay" or "bi" it really narrows the definition of the thing it describes. It really is just a new definition of marriage where same-sex couples can now have more of the same rights that heterosexual couples have (we are still working on some aspects (such as adoption in Victoria which a same-sex couple can not do)). To be perfectly honest, in Australia at least it is not even a new definition of marriage but rather, if Tony Abbott decides to do his job and support the majority view of Australians, returning the definition to what it originally was. Until August of 2004 same-sex marriage was not illegal in Australia. In August the Liberal Government of the time led by John Howard passed a bill that made same-sex marriages illegal. I am seeing a bit of trend with the Liberal Government which, given its name, is a very ironic party.

The message of this post is really that we should not narrow the definition of something by labeling it as "gay" for example because it really excludes a lot of people to which it also should refer to. Hopefully when it comes time for Tony Abbott to decide whether or not to allow his party a free vote (where they do not have to vote along party lines) on the same-sex marriage bill next month he has the strength to make the right decision for Australia. Not the right decision based on his own minority beliefs. I could have a whole post full of my disappointment for Tony Abbott but it doesn't take long to find if you Google his name (although I have already done this for you so just click here to see it).

It's time our Prime Minister finally did his job. See you soon.

Annoying

Is it just me or is there a lot of things in our lives that are annoying? Some of these things happen rarely while others happen quite often. Sometimes it involves other people or just yourself. There are many things I find that can be very annoying and come with varying degrees of occurrences. One of the most annoying things I find is getting a song stuck in my head and only knowing half the words. After seeing The Great Gatsby I had A Little Party Never Killed Nobody stuck in my head for days and I only ever knew the words that made up the title. In the end I just downloaded the song to put my mind at rest but then that did not help because I found myself listening to it so much that it got stuck in my head. Even more annoying than this however is when you are trying to fall asleep but you can not because you have a song stuck in your head. This happens to me so many times it stopped being amusing a long time ago. Sometimes I just really wish songs were not so catchy or at least did not get stuck in my head.

There are also the times when people say stuff to you that does not make any sense and when you try to tell them you have no idea what they are on about they treat you like an idiot. Just because they have trouble clearly explaining something does not mean I, or anyone else, is an idiot and it just really annoys me. Then there are those hypocrites which also annoy me. One minute they are telling you not to do something or how stupid it is to be doing that and then a week later you see them doing the exact same thing. The worst part is you can not say anything or else they will go on a long spiel on how they are not being hypocritical etcetera etcetera etcetera. Then there are the times when you ask someone to help you and suddenly they get it in their heads that they are way better than you just because you needed help with one question. Seriously, I mean no matter how many times they ask you questions if you ask just once suddenly your the idiot and they are the genius. Basically, it is pretty annoying when you are with someone who has a superiority complex or epitomises narcissism. It just really annoys me when someone does that. Then you have all the spoilt, screaming children you see wherever you go always complaining because their parents will not buy them something expensive that they will probably use once and then never again. Sometimes I think the parents just need to take them aside and tell them to stop it instead of giving in and buying them what they want. Of course you can never tell them this though because people get very protective when it comes to their children and struggle seeing their faults. What about all the people who give a group of people a stereotype. It really annoys me how some arrogant (cue annoyed adjectives), antisocial idiotic teenagers can do stupid things and give everyone else a bad name. It really pisses me off (if you'll excuse my outburst) how some people think they are above the law and feel no guilt in ruining something for every other person. I better stop now or else my language will continue to digress and there could be some swearing. I already had to backspace a few times with some of my descriptions.

Don't let the annoying things bring you down, see you tomorrow!

Blogs

There are thousands of blogs on the Internet and a myriad of sites hosting them. They range from daily blogs to Current Affair Blogs. Some of them are lifestyle blogs while others focus on other topics such as Beauty or Gaming. They all have many things in common and are all entertaining in their own rights. Some Blogs make us laugh while others make us think. Some just keep us up-to-date with news while others educate. Some show us different (sometimes entrenched) views while others just provide the facts without opinion. One thing is for sure, all these blogs involve an individual's thoughts, often unmitigated. This is fantastic as it provides us with an online World rich in opinions and culture. Blogs really are wonderful things.

I am going to use my friend (Xavier's) Current Affairs blog as an example. You guys should really check it out because it is very entertaining. As well as being entertaining this blog is also insightful (most of the time) and provides the facts as well as opinions so you know that however ridiculous it may sound it has some basis of fact. Also, under some posts there is a list of references (also known as a Bibliography) for further reading or to check some facts. This is very helpful as it can give an interested person some more information without the Blogger having to type anything else. Xavier's blog is a great example of the great use of Blogs today as it involves entertainment in the form of comedy as well as opinions and facts. There is also in-depth analysis in some of them as well as a lot of metaphors in others. I really recommend reading this Blog, it really is great writing.

May the odds be ever in your favour, see you tomorrow!
