Highly Anticipated Films of 2014

Again, I am sincerely sorry for the lack of posts in the last two days. Tuesday was due to a large amount of homework that had to be done and yesterday (Wednesday) was because it was my father's birthday and I was busy for most of the afternoon/night. So we move on to today's post where I go through five more of the highly anticipated films of 2014.

Annie

Annie may seem like the story you know and love but this 2014 film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical puts a new spin on it. Jay-Z is said to have reworked some of those iconic Annie musical numbers to bring it into the new generation and it stars Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stack, a variation of Daddy Warbucks. It is set to be a very interesting interpretation of the iconic musical that many know and love.

Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas is the first of a seven book series (six of which have already been released) that has already sold over 20 million copies world-wide. Odd Thomas tells the story of small-town fry cook Odd Thomas (played by Anton Yelchin) who is an ordinary guy with a paranormal secret: he sees dead people, everywhere. When a creepy strange shows up with an entourage of ghostly bodachs - predators who feed on pain and portend mass destruction - Odd knows that his town is in serious trouble. Teaming up with his sweetheart Stormy (Addison Timlin) and the local sheriff (Willem Dafoe), Odd plunges into an epic battle of good versus evil to try to stop a disaster of apocalyptic proportions.

Endless Love

Endless Love is the remake of the 1981 Franco Zefirelli film. Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde star in the story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy who instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart. Could this be the next The Notebook? Probably not, but it will not stop the audiences from wishing it so.

Transcendence

Dr. Will Caster (played by Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst of him to succeed - to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (played by Rebecca Hall) and his best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can... but if they should. Their wost fears are realised as Will's thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Pinocchio

This modern version of Pinocchio is still in talks with possible actors but Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the role of Geppetto, the character the story follows, who is a woodcarver who creates a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and whose nose grows when he tells a lie. When Pinocchio goes missing, Geppetto embarks on a quest to reunite with his marionette.

Iconic Movies

We all have those movies that we never forget and that we watch year after year after year after year without regrets. I have compiled a list of these movies below that I watch repeatedly without regrets.

1. Love Actually

Love actually  is such an iconic Christmas romantic-comedy movie. Filled with a star studded cast, a heart-touching story and hilarious scenes this movie is one my family shamelessly watches year after year. If you have not seen this British comedy, you really should because it is one of the best.

2. Pitch Perfect

This may be a recent film but within a week of receiving the DVD I had already watched it 3 times. Since then I have watched it a few more. It is one of those comedies you can come back to again and again and still not get bored with. I like it and so I put it on this list.

3. The Hunger Games

Do not act surprised, you knew it was coming. I am talking about movies so of course this would come up. The Hunger Games is something I can watch over and over and over again. It is the dramatic representation of a world reeling from a dystopian world with a totalitarian dictator. Confused yet?

Movies

Movies are magical creations and can transport us to different worlds. Movies can make us feel good, or they can make us feel bad. Sometimes movies can scare us and other times make us laugh. The good thing about movies is that they come in many different lengths and genres meaning they could suit anybody. You have documentaries, comedies, sci-fi films, chick flicks (sorry for sounding so colloquial), Romances or even a western. Of course, there are also many other genres out there (like Anime) but if I listed them all we would be here for days. Personally I enjoy movies as they allow me to escape somewhere I have never been before, even if just for an hour or two. Of course, not all movies are good and some of them make us wish we could have our time back. A good example of a movie like this was the movie called "The Tree of Life" which I think starred Brad Pitt. Some of the critics were saying how great the movie was and how deep and entertaining it was and while I was watching I actually fell asleep. It was utter crap in my opinion but still, some people like that kind of movie which is why I say they appeal to everybody, although people will certainly not always like the same thing.

Sometimes movies are made based on books, 'true' events, manga or some other type of text. Sometimes the film adaptation is a whole lot better than the original (not that I can think of any off the top of my head), some of them were on the same par as the original (like Beautiful Creatures) and some of them are just plain horrible. Sometimes film-makers try to stretch out an already over-stretched film franchise and it is just one of those things you go to see knowing you won't enjoy it but you still want to go. You would not believe how many times that has happened to me, although (admittedly) sometimes I do enjoy myself and pretend not to so I don't embarrass myself. Basically, I like films when they are good and to my liking. Sometimes film franchises are really successful (like James Bond or Harry Potter) and you can not wait to see the next one. Those are the sort of movies I like as they have a continuation rather than just one movie and that is it. I like to find out what happens after the resolution. It's probably the reason why I like vlogs on YouTube; I like to see how people's lives turn out but not in a stalker-ish fashion (that's right, over 100 posts and I'm still making up words). Movies, for me, are a wonderful invention and I wonder what our World would be like without them.

French

French, is such a romantic language and you can say anything in French and make it sound romantic. For example: "J'adore comment que je veux vous tuer" sounds so romantic and I dare you to stop reading right now, search up a French person on Facebook and message them with that. Well, even though it sounds romantic the meaning of that sentence is anything but. In English: "J'adore comment que je veux vous teur" translates to "I love how much I want to kill you" which is not so romantic. Don't ask me why I chose that sentence, I just did. Wow, I sound really morose.

As you may know, I study French at school and I find it actually a fun subject (I can just hear one of my friends going "'Fun'? How is French 'fun'?" I don't know how to answer that question but for me French is fun. I just enjoy learning it and I don't know if it is because of the way it sounds, the pretty pictures in the textbook, or getting to use Language Perfect in and out of class to study. For me French is one of my favourite subjects (right up there next to Maths) and it has been shown that learning a different language improves your ability to learn and understand new things or something along those lines. Learning a different language provides someone with the experience to be able to travel overseas and understand at least some of what is been thrown at them (literally and figuratively). 

I used to study Italian in my old school but I never really enjoyed it as much as I enjoy French (I now study French if you haven't picked that up already) now and I guess I'll never really look back because I have learnt some basics of Italian and now am learning more in-depth French which is challenging and enjoyable. The good thing about this is that I can sort of say I am multilingual because I speak a bit of Italian and French as well as a lot of English (I live in Australia, of course I speak English and I am writing this blog in ENGLISH. Do you see the connection?). French has opened up many opportunities for me and I really enjoy learning it and am grateful to have been given the opportunity to do so.
