Doctor Who Sunday: Top Moments of the Modern Doctor Part 8

Welcome back to another Doctor Who Sunday! As you may have realised, over the past two weeks this segment (in fact, all segments) took a brief hiatus and this is the first Doctor Who Sunday of the New Year! This segment is to do with all things Doctor Who. Currently we are going through some of the top moments of modern Doctor Who. Of course, this is of my opinion and so if you have any that I may have left out then do not hesitate to comment it down below or send it through via the contact form.

36. The Doctor Donna from Journey's End

Who did not just love this shock twist at the end of Journey's End? Personally, I find this finale one of my favourites in Doctor Who and this is just part of the reason. Donna Noble, played by the very talented Catherine Tate, has become part Doctor, part Donna, the Doctor-Donna. It is always fun to see one of the most feared monsters in the Universe turned into powerless machines. Plus, Donna's comedy became even better as she began spouting out nonsense that no one but a Timelord would be able to understand. It was a great scene.

37. The Spinning Daleks from Journey's End

This humiliation of the Daleks in Journey's End was a triumphant moment for many Whovians. As the Doctor Donna came through and saved the day she also managed to humiliate the most feared monster in the entire Universe. This scene can be seen (not intended) in the above clip. Just seeing them be pushed and kicked around was enough to put a spring in many a Whovian's step.

38. "I Don't Want to Go" from The End of Time Part 2

This was the scene that broke many hearts. It was the last time we thought we would ever see David Tennant as the Doctor and if it were not for the 50th Anniversary special it would have been. This farewell also set a precedent for Matt Smith's as when each of them regenerated they both said something that could be seen as coming from them as a farewell or just from the Doctor. Both of them were scripted but it was very emotional. Eccleston's farewell was not as much like these ones.

39. "Delete your internet history" from The Eleventh Hour

The first episode with Matt Smith (besides the regeneration at the end of The End of Time Part 2) was one that introduced you to the new Doctor and gave us all a taste of what we could expect from the new era of Doctor Who. In this episode, the Doctor is trying to save the world from a prison warden from another universe who will destroy the Earth if a prisoner is not recovered in twenty minutes. This scene sees the Doctor and Jeff, someone he found to help him besides Amy and Rory for once, take Jeff's laptop to hack into a conversation only to find something he was not expecting. As the Doctor said, "delete your internet history."

40. The Earth is Protected from The Eleventh Hour

After the prison wardens, known as the Atraxi, leave the Earth safe and sound the Doctor then calls the monster back, much to the surprise of Amy and Rory. The Doctor does this to show how angry he is that the Atraxi threatened to destroy the entire Earth just for one prisoner. It was a very triumphant moment of the Doctor showing his power and strength to stand against such monsters and intimidate them.

Doctor Who Sunday: Top Moments of the Doctor Part 4

Welcome to another Doctor Who Sunday! For those of you who may not have realised, I posted another one of these on Friday which you can view by clicking here. In this segment we celebrate all things Doctor Who! Over the first few weeks I will be going through, in chronological order of when it appeared on the show, my favourite moments of Modern Doctor Who! Enjoy. Click here for Part 1, here for Part 2, and here for Part 3.

16. "No POCKETS!" in The Runaway Bride

This was the scene where Donna Noble (portrayed by Catherine Tate) exclaims to the Doctor that she 'forgot' to tell her Wedding Dress designers to add pockets. This is when they are looking for change to pay for a Taxi and call Donna's family. It is a very comedic scene from an episode that is but a taster for the comedic genius that is Catherine Tate and David Tennant combined.

17. Donna Stops the Doctor in The Runaway Bride

This scene from The Runaway Bride is one where we see the Doctor get carried away and give in to his darker side. However, Donna steps in and tells the Doctor to stop after seeing that the monster they are fighting has suffered enough having lost all of its children leaving it the last of its kind. Right at the end of this episode Donna declines travelling with the Doctor but tells him that he must not travel alone because he needs someone to "tell [him] when to stop."

18. The Weeping Angels in Blink

Blink was the episode where many Whovians finally found a reason to be scared of statues. This was the episode where new writer, Steven Moffat, made his grand entrance by creating a monster that would scare Doctor Who fans for many years to come. It is amazing how, in such a short time, this monster has become so popular and among some of the scariest Doctor Who monsters along side the Daleks.

19. The Master and His Companion Dance in The Sound of Drums

It really showed how crazy those two were when they created the end of humanity as we know it and could still dance. It was macabre while also very interesting. It really was one of the best scenes of Series 4 and by far one of the best series finale (it was a two-part episode with this being part 1) of Modern Doctor Who.

20. The Master Dances in The Last of the Timelords

This was the scene that greeted Whovians to the final finale of Season 4. We see a post-apocalyptic world under the rule of a crazed maniac who calls himself the Master. Him and the Doctor are the last remaining Timelords and boy, do they strike a contrast. The Master does do a lot of dancing though. Here we also see the Master's companion growing tired and finally realising who the Master really is. It is a great start to an episode.

I will see you next Sunday with more of my top moments of Doctor Who! See you tomorrow!

Doctor Who Sunday: Double Doses of The Doctor (Top Moments of Modern Doctor Who Part 3)

Yes, I am posting this one on a Friday and yes, I am writing this the day before I post it. Why you would have asked either of those questions I do not know but now, at least in some alternate dimension, someone's questions have been answered. Anyway, I am doing this for missing out on a post on Tuesday and for last Sunday only posting 4 top moments. Today I will post 6 more top moments as well as the usual post on Sunday. These are my top moments of the Doctor in no order except for when they appeared in the show. Of course, since Doctor Who has been going for 50 years I am only doing the modern series as I have not watched enough Classic Doctor Who to make any assumptions. So, let us begin!

10. Elton Pope from Love and Monsters

Elton Pope was many things in this episode of Doctor Who. No longer were we seeing the story through the perspectives of the Doctor and/or his companion(s) but instead from an external source who provided a fresh look at what was going on. Elton dances, sings, starts a club, narrates, falls in love with a girl and, later, (*spoilers*) a slab of pavement with her face stuck in it. Elton Pope brought a lot the show and was something that surprised even me. I was not expecting an episode like this.

11. London Investigation n' Detective Agency (LINDA) from Love and Monsters

If the Doctor can have the TARDIS (time and relative dimension in space) why can Elton not have LINDA (London Investigation n' Detective Agency). LINDA was a 'secret' organisation that got together, shared food, and talked about mysterious occurrences and, of course, the Doctor. After a while they even started a band that did not sound too bad after all. The n' in the name is meant to be like Fish n' Chips (as Elton says in the episode) and it makes it that much more entertaining. As always happens with this sort of thing they get caught up (accidentally) with an alien that ends up with an encounter for Elton with the Doctor. They were quite the band of detectives.

12. "I did my duty for Queen and Country" from Doomsday

Yvonne Hartman, the leader of Torchwood (pre-Jack Harkness), died doing what she believed was her "duty for Queen and Country". Apparently this was so strong that even being turned into a Cyberman (or Cyberwoman) could not have stopped her doing her duty. However, if this was not as unbelievable given what we learnt about what makes a Cyberman it got worse when she actually cried a tear of what appeared to be oil. Still a great character and few scenes though.

13. Rose and the Doctor Separated Forever in Doomsday

Who was not screaming at Rose to "Hold on!" in this scene from the finale of Series 2. I believe it was the day that Whovians everywhere cried (or were close to) as our favourite companion Rose was ripped from us and lost in an alternate dimension. I believe we all breathed a sigh of relief when her father caught her and took him with her to the other dimension. The ending of this clip however just cements our sadness even more. Rose does a lot of crying in her finales. It was sad though.

14. The Doctor and Rose say Goodbye in Doomsday

If losing Rose was not bad enough, the writers wanted us to suffer just that little bit more by making us endure this heart-wrenching goodbye from Rose. It was ruined at the end though by a Donna Noble in a Wedding Dress screaming "WHAT!?" Still, there was a lot of heart and it was hard to see the Doctor try to say he loved her only to be cut short when the transmission cut out.

15. "WHAT?!" in Doomsday

This was the ending of Doctor Who that left emotional fans asking the same word that was repeated at the end of the episode over and over again; "WHAT?" Basically, this scene comes straight after the one you watched just above as Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) materialises in the TARDIS in her wedding dress. We later learn at the start of Season 3 that she was walking down the aisle when it happened. The only words the Doctor and Donna actually say is "What?" over and over again. It was a very confusing ending.

Be sure to check back on Sunday for 5 more top moments from Doctor Who as we move on to Season 3 and beyond. See you tomorrow!

Doctor Who

So I have come to find a new obsession, Doctor Who. Well, it isn't really an obsession but I do love the episodes. My brother bought Season 1 on iTunes so I downloaded it onto my Dad's iPad and have watched a few episodes. I'm up to the Dalek episode but I haven't started it yet so I've only watched the first five episodes of Season 1 so far. I really like Doctor Who because it is a Sci-Fi show with some comedy and a really good story line. It is one of those shows where each episode something different happens which adds to the story line and your understanding of the characters (sort of like Elementary), I just wrote text instead of characters accidentally. I've been doing too much English Text Analysis.

I have two friends really obsessed (well, maybe not obsessed but they love the show) with Doctor Who and when I saw an episode at my school Library on the last day of Term I knew I would want to see more, because I did. I had already had a small look into Doctor Who around the start of the year when I was bored on YouTube and researched some Doctor Who monsters (Weeping Angels are really scary!) but I lost interest because I couldn't find any episodes. Now, having seen a few episodes, I realised I really liked it  and am now watching episodes from iTunes. Through my researching I have looked forward to the new doctors to come and I can't wait until catch up to Season 7! I found that David Tennant as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as the Doctor's Assistant to be a funny period in Doctor Who history and I can't wait.

I am also excited because in the latest episodes (just released at the end of last month) the new assistant (Clara Oswald) is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman who I know from the BBC mini-series "Titanic" in which she was really good. I don't why this makes me excited to see her in Doctor Who but maybe it is just because I have seen her in other places. All I know is that I can't wait until I catch up to those episodes.

May the odds be ever in your favour, see you tomorrow!
