Random Thought Friday: Saturday Again!

You can tell there is a problem with the "Random Thought Friday" name when there are the same number of these posts written on a Saturday as there are on a Friday. I may as well just take out the "Fri" and replace it with something else like "Sat" or "Any". Seriously though, it is becoming an issue. It just that every Friday there seems to be some reason why I am not home enough to write these. In itself, that is weird considering I can stay up later than normal as there is no school the next day. Though I do have Piano in the morning and now with the Leaders of the Future Program I generally have something on Sunday mornings as well so basically I get no sleep in and have to go to bed early to get enough sleep to get me through the week. Wow, I am really starting off this random thought post straight away. Anyway, the next few weeks are going to be a pain mainly due to exams. However, as the exams are later than usual I can sleep in and since my brother does not go to school anymore (as he is doing VCE and their exams finish next Friday) I do not have to get up early to go with him. People do say that every cloud has its silver lining. Anyway, moving on to more random thoughts. This is a really long introduction.

You want to know what is really annoying? Well, as well as all the other stuff I complain about on this blog. Why do I even ask these rhetorical questions when it is not as if I have two alternate posts with a link for each answer. Hey, I should totally do that. It could be a sort of "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" post except it is not really an adventure but merely an interactive post. Anyway, back to being annoyed. What I was saying before my random thoughts got in the way is how annoying it is when you are in a rush for something and you need to park but at that one moment in time there are no car parks. Does this happen to everyone else or is it just my incredibly bad luck? Granted, I am generally not the person driving and if I am I tend to stay away from busy car parks (I do not want to make the other drivers self-conscious once they see my driving skills #seatbeltssavelives) but it does happen to me a lot. Talking about hashtags, I am so behind on some of the internet trends. For ages everyone on Facebook was changing their profile pictures to giraffes. It was not until I read a news article about it that I understood that people who did this had answered incorrectly to a riddle that was circulating. Even recently there is another craze going around where everyone posts little cartoon scenes of themselves (generally with others) with a 'funny' caption underneath. It was not until I found a Facebook page full of them that I found out they were called "Bit-Strips" or something along those lines. I am so far behind on some of the internet trends it is not funny. Seriously, you guys reading this may be amused but it is not a laughing matter. Come to think of it, my mind is in a really random mood at the moment and most of what I am saying is probably sending you all on random tangents that never really had any connection in the first place. I better stop before we get to the "bad metaphor" stage.

Now do you see why I need this weekly post so badly? See you tomorrow!

Random Thought Friday: Saturday Edition

So another week has passed and another Random Thought Friday has been missed due to reasons out of my control. Namely, losing track of time and basic forgetfulness. To make up for the lack of these posts I have decided to write one today, on a Saturday, to make up for all those we have missed. This is only the second Random Thought Friday post so enjoy and I hope to have another one up next Friday. However, I do not want to make any promises as sometimes circumstances escape my control. Hope you have a random weekend!

Thursday night was a pretty important night for my Leaders of the Future Program. As those of you who read last night's incredibly short post would know, Thursday night was the official launch of the program. It was a really great time as it did not go for too long (so we were not stuck listening to repetitive boring speeches) and the speeches they did have were all very interesting. We had our local member who took over Julia Gillard's area (the term escapes me) as well as a person high up in the Wyndham Police Force (Super-Intendant I think). We also heard from a past participant from a similar program over the other side of Melbourne and how the program changed him. It was a great night and I really enjoyed it. Talking about this program we finally started our group training sessions on Sunday with a hike up in the You Yangs. It was only ten kilometres but towards the end it got very steep. Still, I wish Kokoda was going to be like that. The You Yangs are going to be a stroll in the park compared to Kokoda. Still though, it is great to have a place like the You Yangs where we can go hiking and it is not too far away for us. Wednesday night we went Fartlek running which is where you run for a while, then walk, then run, then walk and so on. Ours went a little bit more along the lines of Run, Jog, Run, Jog, Run, Walk, Run, Jog, Walk, Run and so on so it was a little more challenging but it was a great time to continue cementing strong friendships with the others in this program. I said today would be a random thought post and, in a way it is, except for the fact that the central focus is on the Kokoda program. Still though, it was a lot of random thoughts on the topic that I never would have been able to stretch over a whole post.

I hope you guys see another Random Thought Friday this Friday. See you tomorrow!

Villains

Where would our favourite shows or movies be without their villains? When you think about it, a lot is actually riding on how the audience feels towards the villain. A straight-cut bad person never makes for a good villain as they are too one-dimensional for the audience to connect with. A villain can be bad but they need to have one redeeming factor about them so that people can see the good that was once in them. This can make the job hard for some writers as they need to make a villain so that some people empathise with them while others are against them and still others are in the middle. Sometimes we do not even know who the real villain is until the final moments and that also makes for a great villain. Taking this into account I have made a list of some of my favourite Villains of all time. Oh yeah, it really has been a list weekend over the last three posts has it not?

1. Regina Mills/The Evil Queen from Once Upon a Time

Regina has been through a lot in her life. Before she was the evil queen she was just your ordinary girl in love with an overbearing mother who had different plans for her daughter. Through Once Upon a Time we see how and why Regina became the Evil Queen and her hatred for Snow White. We also see that there is still good in her and this is why the writers of Once Upon a Time should be commended for their work on creating such an in-depth and confusing villain.

2. The Tet from Oblivion (*SPOILER ALERT*)

*SPOILER ALERT* The following paragraph will contain spoilers regarding the ending of Oblivion so if you intend to watch the movie and have not yet then you might want to skip this bit and move on to number three. *SPOILER ALERT* Anyway, so the Tet is basically this big machine in the sky that, throughout the majority of the movie, we believe as Earth's final military base before everyone leaves Earth after a devastating war that destroyed the planet and its moon. It is not until the final minutes that we actually find out that the Tet is actually an alien space ship that goes from planet to planet taking all energy. It really is a great shock and the creators of Oblivion created such a hidden and unexpected villain that it is just marvelous. The Tet may be evil but it is still pretty awesome (and I do not use that word nearly enough).

3. "Big" Jim Rennie from Under the Dome

Big Jim is a character that has his fans in a yo-yo. At one point we see a great person and feel some sympathy for him but then a second later he just morphs into a horrible human being. It really comes down to the writing of Stephen King and the other writers from the series. The actor himself, Dean Norris, is fantastic at portraying this character. As much as the character comes down to the writers the actor themselves also plays a big role in how the audience feels towards them. A single twitch in the face can reveal a lot about a character and it takes a skilled actor to pull something like this off.

I am sorry for all the lists this weekend if that has annoyed you, blame it all on Random Thought Friday which sort of spread throughout the whole weekend. Anyway, see you tomorrow!

The Journey to 200 Posts Part 1

So we have come full circle and back to Random Thought Friday. Today's Random Thoughts are going to be a little less random as we take a journey back through the 199 posts that lead up to this, the 200th post. So let's get started shall we because it could be a long one. We began back in march with an introduction to me and my reasons for writing a daily blog (oh, how naive I was back then). Then I spent the next few posts complaining about schoolwork and my experiences over the first few days of the holidays. After this, my blog went on a bit of an hiatus over the Easter break when I went to Phillip Island and my first post back was a reflection of my experiences over the past few days. Then I went on to complain about YouTube's April Fools Antics and then explained my obsession with Beautiful Creatures (which I got over) and Catching Fire (never getting over that, but you can always hope). It then went on to the post about how much I enjoyed Oz the Great and Powerful and the annoying stereotypes of Kids Movies and how sometimes the older people enjoy it more than the children the movie is aimed for.

I then went on to examine my new found obsession with the wonder that is Doctor Who before, ironically, writing a post the next day on procrastination and how whenever I need to start something I find every excuse not to. The next day Mum was sick and I was still procrastinating (some things never change) and then I proceeded to complain about irresponsible parents and annoying children in the following post. Next I wondered at the amazing technology in shopping centre car parks coupled with my review of The Croods. Friends and Family was next reflective post which followed in quick succession with my review of Oblivion, which was awesome by the way. I finished off the holidays with a daily update and another post about Catching Fire and my clumsiness. I began the new term with my complaint on the amount of homework we had followed by my first post about the Kokoda Leadership Opportunity which was actually the day we found out about the program and we only had a night to think about it and fill in the form. Lucky I decided to apply. I then celebrated because I had finally caught up with all my homework before I reflected on New Zealand Legalising Same-Sex Marriage. The next two days were about Relay for Life and then I wrote about Community and how I gained that from Relay for Life. I continued with a post about the sacrifices we make before celebrating after my great parent teacher interviews. I then wondered at how little people used Google Plus, the catchy tunes of Dumb Ways to Die and finally the convenient skills of scheduling. Ironically, I did not schedule that post though I probably should have because I did not come home until really late. I finished off the Month of April by describing my quirks, analysing faith, watching reality television and how easy it is to cause offence.

So that was merely the first month and a bit of my blog and there are still so many more wondrous posts to discover on our journey through 200 Daily Lukey posts. See you tomorrow!

Lost Ideas

Do you ever think of something really good and then instantly forget it? Have you ever wanted to tell your friend something but when it comes to speaking you have nothing to say? I swear this happens to me a bit more than usual though I know it happens to nearly all of us (damn you photographic memory people). Even in the past few days it has happened to me too much for me to just ignore it. Seriously, I have literally walked into rooms then left almost instantly without getting what I wanted to. It is sort of like I am possessed with my own absent-mindedness. I never realised how many 'S's there were in possessed. I guess it possesses a lot of 'S's.

Even last night as I was writing the first ever Random Thought Friday (#RTF) post I had these great ideas and just before I began the sentence I would lose it. It was incredibly frustrating. This is not the first time though with this blog. I will often begin writing topics (oh, the topics you do not see) and then halfway through forget what I was going to write so I have to come up with something different on the spot. When you are in a rush this is incredibly annoying and I would wish upon every star that it does not happen. But I will not because by the time I get through the first two I will have forgotten either what I was wishing for or the stars I had already wished to or both. Most likely both. Even when I was planning what days would be themed what (they are coming, rolling out slowly but they are coming) it would slip my mind. That is why it will not all happen all of a sudden but I will slowly introduce them to the mix. The reason is that I need time to remember what I was thinking of doing. It just also works out well that you guys are not suddenly inundated with a new schedule for different types of posts. As I said yesterday there will still be days with no theme so anything is on the table so do not expect to be any more bored. I am calling it, something supernatural is going on. I better stop now before they get on to me (do not worry, I am not that paranoid).

I seriously can not remember how I was going to end this, see you tomorrow!

Random Thought Friday

So you know how you get those random bouts of inspiration during the day but they are only small? Well that is the issue for me most days as I come across a variety of topics I could write about however I struggle to write a whole post on that same topic. So that means that a lot of my inspiration gets stored away and just goes to waste because I can not pair it with anything without making a crap post. Then I decided to make a Random Post Friday where I can just write little bits on some of my random thoughts throughout the week that I wanted to write a post about but never had enough to write. So now, every Friday is Random Thought Friday. Who knows, maybe these themed days will become a thing. Actually, that sounds pretty cool. I might actually look into that. Anyway, onto some more random thoughts.

Have you ever realised how stubborn some drivers can be. I know I have written previously about bad drivers but stubborn drivers are just as bad. They are so annoying when they are in the right lane (the fastest lane) yet are going slower than those in the left lane (slowest lane [meant to be without these stubborn drivers]). Then they get tooted and abused and they do not care, it really does annoy me a lot. Then you have the inconsiderate people in shopping centres who just move really slowly and there are people behind them trying to get around but they can not because these idiots are blocking the whole area. Does that ever happen to anyone else other than me? Seriously, you are in a rush and suddenly you are stuck behind these two people who just could not care less about anyone but themselves. Seriously, think of others for a change. What about the people who pretend to know everything about everything and then continually ask you all the questions. I mean, they say you are better at the complicated stuff but when it comes to the simple stuff they are better. Come on! If I am better than you at the harder stuff does that not trump the simple stuff and mean I am better than you overall. Wow, that sounded really conceited but I just had to get that out there before I burst. I know! That could be another day, ranting. I would not know what day but it could possibly be a Wednesday or something just to break up the week. I am not setting anything in stone and when I do I will slowly introduce it I think. I will still leave some days open to anything but you may have some theme on Fridays, Saturdays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (as an example). So there is still room for randomness and spontaneity but you also know what to expect the topic to be around on that day. I reckon it would make it easier for both the reader and the writer (why am I talking about myself in third person). Anyway, see how much I needed a random post? I guess, judging from what I talked about, that I also need a ranting day somewhere.

Random thoughts are just as important as other ones, see you tomorrow!
