The Lego Movie Review

My Rating: 8.5/10

Trailer:

Synopsis: An ordinary guy named Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) is mistaken as being the Master builder; the one who can save the universe. With the aid of an old mystic Vitruvius (voiced by Morgan Freeman), a tough young lady named Lucy (voiced by Elizabeth Banks), and Batman (voiced by Will Arnett), Emmet will fight to defeat the evil tyrant Lord Business (Will Ferrell) who is bent on destroying the universe by gluing it together. My Review:

The Lego Movie is a surprisingly great movie. On the outside (and from the trailer) it does seem like a very childish movie when in reality it appeals to all ages. I went to see it with my younger cousin (12), my Mother and my Grandmother and everyone loved it. Even my mother who did not initially want to see it as she thought it was childish came out raving about it. It has a good mix of comedy and heart in that it makes you laugh but the comedy does not overtake the storyline. The star-studded cast is also great with my personal favourite character been Bad Cop/Good Cop who is voiced by Liam Neeson. He is definitely one of the funny characters. The movie also tackles many deeper issues such as belonging, standing out, being different, having an imagination (and not having one) and the importance of working as a team to achieve a common goal.

Even the song prominently featured in a lot of the advertising titled "Everything is AWESOME!!" is a perfect summation of the start of the movie. Everyone is in their own little world and wanting to be uniform which is followed by this mantra of a song which basically takes on a very propaganda-type view of the world that "everything is awesome when we work as a team."

The Lego Movie in one sentence: Everything is AWESOME!!

I highly recommend you see this movie. See you tomorrow!

The Night Before Christmas in Australia

I have had enough of the whole idea of a white Christmas. Forgive me America but we all do not live in a land where snow on Christmas day is normal (although in Melbourne, hail never goes amiss). So maybe, just once, could we present Christmas from a different perspective? Could we drop the snow and turn on the heat? We do not all live in America and so a little change from the quintessential Disney Christmas Movies like "Frozen" would be nice. No more, I say, no more. I believe it is time for Christmas in Australia so settle back and enjoy as we melt the snow, turn on the heat and add some random weather patterns in there to get into the Melbourne Christmas.

The Night Before Christmas (in Australia)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was sleeping, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the air-con with care;
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were sweating, all hot in their beds,
While visions of ice-cubes danced in their heads;
And mamma in her clogs, and I in my thongs,
Had just settled down for a sweaty sing-along,
When out by the pool there arose such a clatter,
I quickly stopped singing to see what was the matter,
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer,
With a sweaty old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than Melbourne Weather his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Oi, Dasher! Oi, Dancer! Oi, Prancer and Vixen!,
On Comet! On Cupid! On, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As hot flames that before the bush-fires fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the air-vent St Nicholas came with a bound,
He was dressed for the beach, from his head to his foot,
But his boardies were still wet from sweat and mildew;
A bundle of fans he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a mechanic just opening his pack
His eyes -- how they twinkled! His brow so sweaty!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up something nice,
And the beard of his chin as white as the ice,
The stump of an ice cube held tight in his teeth,
And the water it pooled around his gums like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon have me to know I had nothing to dread
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a node, up the air vent he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night."

That was The Night Before Christmas as set in Australia. Over the coming days before Christmas where there are no scheduled posts I will do more of these to show to you that not all of us live in a "Winter Wonderland".

Only 6 more sleeps until Christmas! See you tomorrow.

The Wrong Lyrics

There are many horrible things in our world today. One of the worst is what I am going to be talking about today. For those of you who actually read the title (you would be surprised how many people do not) of this post would know what I am going on about. Of course, I am talking about the times when you have a song stuck in your head and you do not know most of the lyrics. But wait, this is not even the worst part. It is even more annoying when you think you have the right lyrics but all you end up doing is singing the one line over and over again (for some songs this works) or just putting in random words. For instance, I have only actually listened to Royals by Lorde once (do not judge me) and so I know the general sound and rhythm as well as a lot of the lyrics. However, there are some parts where I either just hum it or I insert some random words. Once, after watching Fringe, I found myself singing "And we will never be Broyles (Broyles)". It really just stuck and so now, almost every time, I find myself singing that line instead of actually singing the right words.

The worst part is sometimes what part of the song that you remember. You know how some songs make sense all together but if said in dribs and drabs it makes absolutely no sense and makes you look crazy. As my favourite artist is Lady Gaga and most of her songs are a little "out-there" as it is sometimes the parts of her songs I can remember can make me sound like a sexual predator. For instance, in Aura (one of her new songs from ARTPOP) the only part I can clearly remember besides the beginning is "Do you want to see me naked lover? Do you want to peek underneath the covers? Do you want to see the girl who lives behind the aura, behind the aura? Do you want to touch me cosmic lover? Do you want to peek underneath the cover? Do you want to see the girl who lives behind the aura, behind the aura, behind the aura, behind the aura?" Do you know how weird that would sound if you passed someone singing that on the street. Do not even get me started on the only parts I can remember of her songs Sexxx Dreams, Jewels and Drugs, and Dope. Even though Dope is actually a very emotional and deep song, the main parts I can remember make me seem like a drug-addict. Although, in Werribee that might not stand out as much (no judge). Admittedly, even if I knew all the lines of Sexxx Dreams I would still sound extremely weird to anyone passing by. At least Gypsy is a relatively normal song with no explicit sexual innuendo so I can get away with singing that in public, Venus not so much. Mary Jane Holland sort of though I would seem like I am having a delusion of stardom with someone called Mary Jane Holland. Donatella would just make me sound like a superficial rhymes-with-witch and Fashion would make me seem like that guy from the Target advertisements.

This is a very serious issue, see you tomorrow!

So Many New Things

November is shaping up to be a really great month for me. I do not know why but this month has just seemed so great. I have no other way to explain it. The past few days has even strengthened my view of this. As most of you will not know, Lady Gaga's new album new album ARTPOP was released just today and even as I type this Lady Gaga is celebrating the release with an artRAVE. You may remember back in August when I got really excited when Applause was released (a single from the album). Now multiply that by fifteen (the number of songs on the album) and you get an idea of how I am feeling right now. I quickly downloaded all the songs onto my phone and so far I have listened to a number of the songs already. I also created a playlist of all the songs I could find on YouTube that was from ARTPOP. To view this playlist just click here. I have also embedded the playlist in this post. It is right under the album cover for ARTPOP below.

I am totally dancing in my seat right now as I write this post. I am in total fanboy meltdown at the moment. It was definitely worth the wait. Those who are not fans of Lady Gaga may not enjoy it as much. So please, if you do not like Lady Gaga know this: I do not care. I can not stop singing "G.U.Y." and "Aura". So you guys have probably worked out by now that Lady Gaga is my all-time favourite artist. I adore her and her songs. Lady Gaga is the best. There, I said it. Aside from Lady Gaga (as reluctant as I am to move on) Doctor Who also released two new trailers for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special: The Day of the Doctor. This is just a really awesome trailer that provides some great sneak peeks at what is going to happen in the blockbuster 50th anniversary special. I can not wait until the episode actually airs on the 23rd (or 24th in Australia [I do not know]) of November so that I can actually watch this special episode featuring Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Smith all as the doctor. Obviously though they play different regenerations of the doctor but they still meet at what appears to be Gallifrey. The trailer makes it seem really awesome but I guess that is just the job of the trailer. Anyway, I really want to get back to Lady Gaga so I am just going to finish this post before it becomes more random than my last Random Thought Friday post which I actually posted on Saturday due to time restraints.

I live for the applause (#APPLAUSE), see you tomorrow!

Daily Lukey: The Journey to 200 (Part 6)

So we have finally reached the end of this series which has been stretched out for longer than previously intended. We began September with a continuation of the Political Parties series followed by another late night post that was, and I quote, "Super Short and Super Sweet". The next day was the final post on the political parties of Australia which was followed by a post on getting distracted which, ironically, was distracting me from my homework. I then wrote another late night post with my reflection on our schools House Chorales competition. I then reminisced about what things used to be like before writing a list of characters who deserved their own show. Oh, the posts you can get away with when it is your own blog. I then wrote a post on Nature for some unknown reason before writing about how much of a sticky beak my family really is. I then wrote another post on fundraising before lamenting on how hard it is to effectively exercise with Sandy. I then complained about a disease I coined the "Song in Head" Disease. I then wrote a post on being gullible before reflecting on my Year 10 Formal. I then reflected on the Donations in Kind activity the Wyndham "Leaders of The Future" did with the Werribee Rotary. I then rejoiced as a fabled curse had been lifted which regarded Game Design and a runny noise.

I then went through some of my favourite songs in my playlist before discussing some awkward moments I often experience with others. I then went through my most popular tags (in terms of posts) before celebrating the start of the Holidays. The next day was a little more negative as I lamented that I was sick which was followed by another short post on weird advertisements. I then offered an explanation as to my recent spate of short posts before writing a post on judging things before you experience them. I then made the mistake of writing a post telling people to stop making so many Puns. I say mistake as for the rest of the holidays I was treated to a daily pun texted to me each day by one of my 'friends'. I then analysed the different types of tourists in Melbourne before realising my reliance on technology. I then went through the posts that appeared in my Facebook News Feed before marveling at some great discoveries. I finished the month of September with another short post written on my phone late at night. October began with a post on problems and the sheer amount of problems that we have. I then complained about disappointing sequels after watching Grown Ups 2 before displaying some random facts about me. I then started my new weekly segment titled "Random Thought Friday". Although that is so far the only post in this series because of my 200 posts celebration that I had. Be ready for another Random Thought Friday this Friday though. I then explained how I would always lose good ideas immediately after having them before giving my review of the movie Gravity. I then wrote a post on my first day back at school and how I wished every day were as relaxing as that one before writing a post on first impressions. From here I wrote a post on new addictions and their sources. I then complained about some annoying junk emails before reaching (and celebrating) my 200th Post. That was my journey to 200 posts!

Thank you all so much for your support. See you tomorrow!
