Highly Anticipated Films of 2014

Again, I am sincerely sorry for the lack of posts in the last two days. Tuesday was due to a large amount of homework that had to be done and yesterday (Wednesday) was because it was my father's birthday and I was busy for most of the afternoon/night. So we move on to today's post where I go through five more of the highly anticipated films of 2014.

Annie

Annie may seem like the story you know and love but this 2014 film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical puts a new spin on it. Jay-Z is said to have reworked some of those iconic Annie musical numbers to bring it into the new generation and it stars Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stack, a variation of Daddy Warbucks. It is set to be a very interesting interpretation of the iconic musical that many know and love.

Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas is the first of a seven book series (six of which have already been released) that has already sold over 20 million copies world-wide. Odd Thomas tells the story of small-town fry cook Odd Thomas (played by Anton Yelchin) who is an ordinary guy with a paranormal secret: he sees dead people, everywhere. When a creepy strange shows up with an entourage of ghostly bodachs - predators who feed on pain and portend mass destruction - Odd knows that his town is in serious trouble. Teaming up with his sweetheart Stormy (Addison Timlin) and the local sheriff (Willem Dafoe), Odd plunges into an epic battle of good versus evil to try to stop a disaster of apocalyptic proportions.

Endless Love

Endless Love is the remake of the 1981 Franco Zefirelli film. Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde star in the story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy who instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart. Could this be the next The Notebook? Probably not, but it will not stop the audiences from wishing it so.

Transcendence

Dr. Will Caster (played by Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst of him to succeed - to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (played by Rebecca Hall) and his best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can... but if they should. Their wost fears are realised as Will's thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Pinocchio

This modern version of Pinocchio is still in talks with possible actors but Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the role of Geppetto, the character the story follows, who is a woodcarver who creates a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and whose nose grows when he tells a lie. When Pinocchio goes missing, Geppetto embarks on a quest to reunite with his marionette.

Highly Anticipated Films of 2014 (At the Movies with Daily Lukey)

Welcome back to another At the Movies with Daily Lukey post! We will continue our look through some of the highly anticipated films of 2014. Some of them may not seem as exciting as you might think but there is always something about them that makes the highly anticipated or else I would not add them in.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

This film is set fifteen years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011). This cult classic revamp continues the story of how ultra-intelligent simian Caesar presides over the fall of human civilisation. A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. The reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

While The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is still in theatres, fans are already looking forward to the conclusion of The Hobbit Trilogy which is based on the book of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkein. This prequel trilogy to The Lord of the Rings trilogy is set in Middle-earth 60 years before the events in The Lord of the Rings. This film concludes The Hobbit Trilogy.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel has had great success in the past with it's comic-to-screen movies and so all eyes on this new movie Guardians of the Galaxy which is based on yet another Marvel comic book. The story features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. An American pilot ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants. This movie is expected in theaters in August.

22 Jump Street

This sequel to the surprisingly successful comedy 21 Jump Street sees Officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) team up to go undercover at a local college. However, when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. *Fingers Crossed* the sequel does not ruin the original.

Divergent

Divergent is definitely a movie to look out for in 2014. It is based on the popular books by Veronica Roth and all fans are hoping that the movie performs well enough to turn the book sequels into movies. Divergent is an adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (played by Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it is too late.

Things No One Enjoys

This is a public service announcement. If you find yourselves doing any of these things, stop right away and move on with your life. Never look back at that time and never repeat yourself. Sincerely, the rest of human kind. Seriously though, there is so much that goes on around us that no one likes yet people still do it. They even make jokes about it. Who has ever heard on a train or tram "Oh, I'm on a (insert mode of transport) but I can talk"? Just stop, no one wants to hear your conversation and if the most exciting thing on my train ride home is listening to what you are going to do later that night than I would rather not. Feel free to comment down below or use the contact form to the right if there are any that you want to add. There is sure to be a lot more out there.

While I am on the topic of trains and trams. If you are listening to music, make sure you use headphones. No matter what song is playing, if I am being bombarded by it on a crowded train I am not likely to want to listen to that song again and if you stay like that for more than 20 minutes you are not going to be able to listen to music on your newly-smashed iPod. If you are using headphones, do not have your music so loud such that you may as well not be wearing any. You too may find yourself in the market for a new phone/music player in the coming moments. Also, if you think you are so tough by drinking alcohol, riding between carriages or doing what you think are "Chin-Ups" then just stop. You look like a complete tool and are probably going to be mistaken for the Janoskians. Moving away from transport we come to the wonderful world of entertainment. First, let us go on a trip to the movies. If you are going to see a movie do not spend half of it either talking or using your phone. It annoys everyone else around you and, trust me, you are not the center of the Universe. Also, if you are coming in late, do it quietly and with as little disruption as humanly possible. Narrating your way down the aisle tends to ruin the movie experience. The same goes for live shows where it is even worse as they tend to cost a lot more than movie tickets. Back to transport, do not be an idiot on the roads. No sane person likes a hoon. They cause a disruption and are a public nuisance. Who cares if their cars are crushed or impounded? Every bad choice should have a consequence. Also, if you are on the Highway/Freeway do not travel in the fast lane while going 20km/h under the speed limit. If you do, you are going to get harassed because no one likes that. Also, do not suddenly decide to cross all the lanes in one giant leap as if you are Moses parting the red sea. No one likes that and no one likes you. Next we come to shopping. If you are going to use the self-serve at the peak periods then make sure you know what you are doing. Do not bother going there if you are just going to take ages to scan one item. Also, if you do not know what you want, do not go up and wait in line to order or purchase something. Have you never heard of looking around before or is this just some strange concept? Also, if you find yourself in front of an emergency vehicle, get out of the damn way. I have news for you, you can get charged for doing that!

Weird News Tuesday: Thursday Edition

Why do I even put the names of days at the ends of these segment names? It just means that every time I miss out on it and post it on a later day that it becomes more noticeable that it is out of place. Sometimes I just think I set myself up to fail. Anyway, moving on from whatever that was. Welcome to another Weird News Tuesday post with a little difference. Yes, the difference is that it is on a Thursday. I know, I do love to live on the wild side. Today's stories come from our friends over at the SBS news team. We begin with Britain selling, of all things, pig semen to China. On the outside this does seem like a really weird proposition but trust me, once you know the reasons it actually seems normal. Well, as normal as it can be to export pig semen. It is being sold to China by British farmers to increase China's meat market. In other news, some Spanish Roman Catholics (the nationality is Spanish, the religion is Roman Catholic) are in uproar over some figurines of the holy virgin Mary 'defecating'. Yes, finally a news site that quotes the word 'defecating' and not anything else. World-class reporting there. It actually is if you take away the quotation marks so good on you SBS. So far, they have had the best news site in terms of design, breadth of content and depth of content. Well done to the SBS.

Moving away from the angry Christians, we move onto a man who threw out a hard drive for his computer that contained $7.5 million in bitcoins (an online form of currency). Apparently now, as you would, he is frantically searching for this fortune in some landfill. That was one hell of an expensive mistake. A Slovak pensioner has opened a zoo filled with a different type of animal. This zoo is full of dozens of abandoned stuffed animals. That really is a nice story but still, a little weird. It came about from a reluctance of throwing out his children's teddy bears after they grew into adults and no longer wanted them. It is very touching but not something you would expect to see every day. Who knows, that could be the next big craze. Next we have a wonderful political story that occurred in Danish politics. After a very 'heated' mayoral election one 'far-right' party decided to withdraw their candidacy on the terms that the opposition serve more pork meatballs in public canteens. That is right, the Danish political system: fighting the hard fight and cooking the tough meat. Another reason to set Canada aside from other countries is Vancouver's new ban on doorknobs in public buildings to increase accessibility. I am no expert into how this would work so I am not going to make any rash judgments but I can see how that might not work. Still, like all new ideas there are always bugs and kinks to work out. Great news for all the Australian Star Wars fans (I am not one of them, the Luke jokes sort of put me off the franchise even though I have watched all six movies and will probably watch the seventh or whatever sequence it comes under). Some Australian film makers are working to create a Star Wars fan film set in the Australian Outback. Not sure how well it will be received by the Star Wars fandom but may the force be with it. A man in Singapore who is actually named "Batman bin Suparman" (they have a photo of his ID to prove it) has been jailed in Singapore (on completely unrelated Drug and Theft charges). Apparently this man was a minor internet celebrity due to his name and the weird/funny part about this story is actually just the name. The terms of his imprisonment are pretty normal for what he was caught doing. Ever heard or watched the movie "Snakes on a Plane"? Well, for some unlucky plane passengers the opportunity would have arose to quote "I have had enough of these goddamn snakes on this goddamn plane" after a snake was found by passengers on a plane from London. I would be severely disappointed if there was not one person on this flight who did not make any reference to this movie. I am glad I was not on that plane though because I probably would have freaked right out. Yeah, I am really going to enjoy Kokoda, am I not? No snakes or creepy-crawlies there. Apparently there was already a record for fastest time paddling 100m in a Pumpkin and guess what, a man has since broke this record at a pumpkin festival in Europe. Apparently it is a big thing because the photos show that this man was not alone but was merely the fastest. That is quite the achievement.

As you can see, there is a lot going on in our world that we may never even notice if we never look. See you tomorrow!

Random Thought Saturday: A Hectic Week

Welcome to another random post here on Daily Lukey. You may have realised that the
"Random Thought Friday" segment has been moved to a Saturday and this is just for ease-of-posting reasons. Fridays are generally busy but on Saturday I do not have school so I do not have to worry about been too busy unless I am going away for the whole day or an extended period of time. Anyway, I wish to apologise (and since you can not stop me I am going to do it anyway) for the amount of short posts this week. Even though it was the last day of the year for school it was still a very busy one. For instance, on Monday I had school all day, then a pathologist's appointment, helping the PFA prepare for Speech Night and attending CFA so there was only a very short post explaining why there would only be some short posts this week. Tuesday, however, was a different story altogether. I had to leave home at 7am to go the Leadership Forum at MacRob in the morning and then went straight from there to Speech Night rehearsal when I never came home until after Speech Night was ended which was around 10:30pm. Even that I had to stay up a little later to have a shower so I never actually went to bed until 11pm and by this time I was so tired that any post I tried to write would make absolutely no sense. I would have scheduled a post to come out on this day but I only found out the day before (Monday) that I had to go to the Forum at MacRob and the only spare time I had on Monday night I spent preparing for the Forum with the other students from my school who were going. It was a very hectic week.

The busy week continued on Wednesday with my Piano Concert on that night. I was pretty awesome on stage (come on, I can dream can I not?) if I do say so myself and I played Gnossienne No. 3 by Erik Satie which is an awesome song by the way. Wow, I am using awesome too much today. Anyway, no matter how awesome I was it did not change the fact that I was still busy. Plus, at this time I was still freaking out about what the doctor meant when he wanted me to come in right away. The result was a lot of stress and a short-ish post. Thursday was yet another busy night even though it was the last day of school for the year. It was mainly busy because I finally went to see the Doctor (and was pleasantly surprised at the result [Fantastic]) and then on the way home we also did some shopping. As a result, the remainder of the night I spent preparing for Orientation Day the next day. By prepare I mean relax. By relax I mean sleep. Long story short, the day ended with another short post. Oddly enough, it was the longest post I have ever written on my phone which was a big achievement for me. It took me a while but it was worth it. Plus, it probably helped that I was not so tired that I just wanted it finished. Friday finally came around and I was able to relax for once. Orientation Day was over along with my time at school until the start of February. Well this post has changed from random to a week in the life of Luke. That should totally be a new segment! I just need to work out when to put it now though. Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday are taken and Wednesday, Monday and Friday are no good for me. By process of elimination I guess that this new series will most likely be posted on a Thursday. Keep an eye out over the coming weeks for this new segment! You read it here first, on Daily Lukey. Well, this is probably the only place you are going to read it on so anyway, enjoy the new segment. You may also notice a change in length of the posts which I post. This is not because I am getting lazy but because since I returned my School laptop I need to use the home computer. For some reason, the size of the words are different when I type them so it may seem like I am writing more when, in reality, I am writing less. I just want to apologise in advance for this.

No Politics Today

So today I decided I would give you all a break from the 'boring' world of politics as it is often referred to as being. Of course, as I may have demonstrated through some of the political parties Australia has to offer, this is not true for all of politics. Such an assumption would be absurd and tantamount to stereotyping. Actually, it is stereotyping. Not all Politics is boring obviously political parties like the Australian Sex Party and the Coke and Bubblers Party contradict this statement. Also, have you seen parliament? It is like a court-room drama with one side fighting against the other and constant bickering. You may have realised that today's post is only a short one and that is, of course, because Thursday nights are a bit of a busy time for me and sometimes I am able to pre-write long posts and times where I have tests and essays coming up I do not have time to do all this. You guys are actually pretty lucky I still manage to reach my daily post quota at times. So yeah, I thought I would give you all a break from Politics today (see that 'smooth' transition back on topic) and so the series will continue in two days and I am pretty sure we are already past half-way through the parties so there should really only be two or three more. Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your week, it's Friday tomorrow!
